What is the Folk Fight Collective?
Folk Fight Collective is a small collective of like-minded musicians from around the Southeastern region creating original music with a unique or experimental flair. The Collective provides a supportive, yet critical, environment for musical creation and recording, as well as a place to present the music for digital download.
The Collective is physically based in the quiet hills not far from Knoxville, TN near an abandoned rock quarry.
A little history lesson:
Way back in 2007, the Collective's founders (Laura and James) started booking folk shows in Knoxville's Old City. They soon called the music series "Folk Fight", a comical pun on the non-competitive listening room environment they carefully fostered. These "Folk Fights" often drew over 100 attentive audience members who sat on floors and instrument cases to listen to folk, roots, and experimental musicians. Meanwhile, musicians came from states far away just to play at a Folk Fight.
Moving forward to 2010, Laura and James decided to create a support system capable of reproducing the Folk Fight environs within a musical community. Thus, Folk Fight Collective appeared. The Collective's main role is to support musicians through musicians: to allow each member to help fellow members where her/his talent best fits. So, some help with booking, some repair instruments, some help record albums, and some teach. Together, we cover every need of the working musician. Together, we are strong, and our strength comes through the sum, not the individual.
Folk Fight Collective will be putting out its first cds this summer, so keep an ear to our page!
